Copper Rocker Box Gaskets

Hello, my name's Clive and fairly new to the site, I read a 3 year old thread on Copper rockerbox gaskets, and recently bought a set from "Copper Gaskets Unlimited" on Ebay, he is located in Arizona U.S.A. and I paid $18 US for the set. I took a couple of pictures of them for you blokes to look at. I haven't installed them yet, so I can't say if they've stopped my inevitable rockerbox leaks. He also sends email installation instructions, and claims that 1st install does not require annealing, however subsequent uses would of course require annealing.

The thickness is 32 thou.
I'd like to hear if anyone out there has used these before.

Hi Clive.
I have purchased a set, supplied very quickly, and postage reasonable from the States to UK. Yet to fit, hope to within the next month, but I,m puzzled about the annealing not necessary on initial installation, as my instructions supplied states gaskets are not annealed prior to shipping ?

I think it is because they have never been squashed, so they don't need it. Annealing puts them back to standard thicknes after crushing. They look good, how much to the UK Billy? And do they suggest gasket goo?

Cost is £11.90 and £5.90 delivery

Gasket sealer is recommended, they suggest Permatex Ultra Grey 3294 or Copper Coat. Wait 10 minutes for sealant to cure, then tighten down, but wait further 24 hours to fully cure before starting the engine.

I have found similar sealant here in the Uk : LOW MODULUS SILICONE SEALANT NEUTRAL CURE again off Ebay, you have to be careful with silicone and aluminium, so standard frame type sealant not suitable.

Hi BillyBream, below is what "Lani emailed me and here are the annealing instructions, note the section I highlighted in red.

Hello Clive

They are not pre annealed you can install without annealing them.
if you want to reuse gaskets you must anneal them. after install and running engine to operating temp. let cool down and re torque .
just to make sure nothing has loosend up.

Yes I am using them and I annealed them 1st, just habit. The copper sealant works well too.

Any reason not to use aluminium gaskets of a similar thickness?  It can be annealed and aluminium is used in other applications such as sump plug washers etc.
Has anyone tried covering "paper" gaskets with silicon sealant, letting it set and then fitting them?

There is a bit of a discussion if you for look for "A10 Rocker box gasket???" in "A7 A10 engine". May get you started. gavinoz
