Save Mallory epetition

Evidently, there are moves being made to silence Mallory.  For those interested to sign a petition to keep Mallory open, you can find the epetition at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk and search for "Save Mallory Park Circuit".  Or try http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/46739.

G'day Keith. I signed. Too many of our tracks are closing with no new ones being built. Down here we lost Oran and Amaroo Parks. Amaroo was closed a few years back but nothing has been done with the site. The track is still there.
Cheers

We managed to get Goodwood reopened for racing. Mind you it helps to have an Earl on your side.

From what I've read, the problem isn't the bike racing and other events but is idiots in tarted up hatchbacks. There was apparently some sort of event last year that involved youths rampaging around the area and quite rightly ***** off the neighbours.

According to the local press people in the village which overlooks the track are complaining about the noise and the number of race days per year. The good old local council are enforcing a reduction in noise level and a restriction on number of race days. The owner says this makes the circuit unprofitable so might sell it off for housing. I can never understand why people who do not like Motorsport buy a house next to a race circuit, but if its sold they will end up looking at a development of 2000 new houses, I know which I would prefer.

Mallory was first a grass track in the late 1940s, and became a tarmac track in the mid 50s long before the many houses were built in the surrounding village. Recent years have seen the addition of a Moto X track which I think has created most of the complaints, we live within 3 miles of this lovely track, also famed for its great fishing lake, lets hope the the track and council achieve a long lasting mutual agreement.

Kind of annoying to my mind, like people buy houses near an airport (because their cheap) and then complain about the noise or a nice house with beautiful garden that borders a river, well sorry if I'm stepping on any toes but you know - the grey stuff ......................

A bit off topic, but I've always thought they should do more temp circuits for week events in manchester and other places around the world, a bit like Monaco or the tt races. Say a 15 mile circuit round manchester. Don't think commuters would be keen though but it would be cool flying round manchester with no speed restrictions or speed cameras. I think a while ago they did try it once for cars (or was it a dream) but never did it again, shame. Could generate a bit of money.

It's only a small circuit but has certainly entertained with some good racing over the years. I used to watch the transatlantic trophy races there in the 70s/80s (US verses UK) with Sheene, Mamola, Roberts and many others, and more recently the British Superbike Championship but sadly they lost that last year which was perhaps the start of the downfall. It will be sad if it goes.
