dynamo belt tension

Anyone help me remember how much play there should be in my dynamo belt ,i've just looked at it and there was way too much and so have adjusted to approx 1/4" up and down in the middle top run, is this enough or to tight, Regards BobH.

Depends on what one you have fitted. The one made by Dynamo regulators .com (who make the DVR")  say "Correct tension is such that it is easy
to turn the belt at the middle of the lower run by about 45 degrees each way."

If I am reading this correct - The toothed belt is going to be set to run pretty tight. I think mine might have been too loose and the belt failed rather soon.
Any on had any experience with the stardard chain driving an Alton alternator??
