Bore scoring
« on: 31.03. 2013 09:32 »
Hi everyone,

A quick question about bore scoring on a Super Rocket?
Both my bores have slight vertical scoring, not deep enough to feel with your finger. I've ran a honing tool down both bores and you can still see the scores, but not feel them.
Am I safe to rebuild?

Cheers,
Shaun

Probably, but this time wash the honing grit off the bores with hot water, soap and a sponge, until the bore surface will not blacken a paper tissue. Then you won't make new scores when you run the engine.

Have you measured the bores?

No, I haven't measured the bores. Was going to give the rings a thorough check tomorrow. I think that it's had a bit of oil starvation the few times its been started over the last 12 years that its sat around and this has scored the bores.

She will blow a bit of smoke for a hundred miles or so but will bed in in time. Please do as TT suggests.

The bores have been well cleaned after honing. Can't feel the little scores. Fingers crossed the rings are ok.
Thanks guys.
