Campbell Silencer in 2 parts

Hi All,

I bought a S/H silencer off EBay, nice condition but I was surprised to find it is in 2 parts the tail pipe end seems to slot into the main body but there is no means of keeping it in place. I have emailed the seller but in the meantime was wondering if I am missing something obvious, does it screw together? Just can't work it out, it has been run on a bike as there is a light coating of carbon on the inside of the tailpipe

That sounds strange. Can you see any evidence of a broken weld anywhere?

Campbell exhaust systems have been around for years, based near Orpington in Kent near where I lived back in the day. Used to be called Campbell Geometrics now called Campbell Custom Exhausts http://www.campbellcustom.co.uk/index.htm

May be worth giving them a call for advice.

PS When looking at their site it looks like an optional baffle may be fitted which involves drilling fixing holes in the can nozzle and trimming any excess from the baffle. Possibly yours was run without the baffle and never drilled.

Hi Jim,

Thanks - I have just sent some photos to Campbells to see if they can help. Is there any A10 silencers on their site? I couldn't find any.

Their workshop is not far from me so I can pop up there  if need be.

I have not had a reply from the seller yet but I cannot see that he would send a faulty/unusable part, his feed back is top notch and the other silencer I bought from him is top notch

They used to specialise in "old style" silencers which used to look a bit like the old Dunstall type and also two stroke expansion chambers but looking on their site now it seems that they mainly concentrate on "can" type silencers for more modern types. It looks like most have removable baffles which can be fitted for the MOT test every year 

I put a pair of Goldies on my SR which I bought from Burton Bike Bits and are made by Britura. They may not suit the purists but sound awesome! I think the noise regs allow older bikes to produce a few more dbs than modern bikes.

Hi Jim,

I remember Campbell Geometrics from the 70's they used have adjustable baffles so you could have diffrent levels of noise.

I am bit annoyed with this purchase to be honest, there were 2 diffrent listings for the silencers one was listed as used and the other as NOS, the NOS is perfect but at the moment the used one is unusable. I might see if I can get a refund on the used one. Do you know if the Briteuro are only available in pairs or as a single?

Hi Muskrat,

There is no broken weld, in fact no weld at all. The cut is perfectly straight and when you slot the parts together they line up,someone has put felt pen marks on both parts to show where the 2 parts meet.

I bought one of these (a Goldie type but for A10 pipes ) thinking I was going to have a Siamese system but that did not work out so I emailed the seller and he sold me another one no problem.

No Quibble,The seller will take it back for a full refund - he doesn't normally deal in A10 parts so wasn't aware there was problem, decent bloke to do business with.

Just for future info I received an email back from John Campbell of Campbell Custom, he has no connection with the old  Campbell company whatsoever.
