Fork slider circlip woes

Hello

I have just assembled my newly bought fork sliders, correct for 1956 RR with the rest of the fork parts, but found that the bottom bush is stuck in the slider. Now I want to get the things apart again, the new super duper circlip will not budge from the recess. What do you chaps use to get the thing out?

G'day Otto. Patience and two pointy scribes work for me. One to get under the end and pry out the other to go in behind and work around.

A tiny screwdriver with the end ground down very thin. I must say it's a daft bit of design.....

Sounds like they might have been shimmed up too tight. You have tried tapping the top bush/shims down a tad? Is there a groove at 90deg to the clip to allow a pointy behind the clip?

I find an electrical screwdriver in the vertical slot will ease the circlip out of its groove and then use a scriber to prise the end up and out it comes. It's a lot easier if you remember to put the gap in the circlip near to the slot when fitting.

I shall be doing this job in the next couple of days. I'll try to remember to take photos.

In the end I resorted to a dremel tool and a pointed grinder...

All have just removed clips by using a ground down elec screwdriver to bring clip forward and other behind works better with cap in clip and cap  in the allined up this was after 1.5 hours last week fing and jeffing should have looked on here first Thanks John.

I made a couple of tools out of 2 x 4 inch nails, the trick was to use a thin grinding wheel on the angle grinder  to grind a indent half way through one nail near its end so it could be used to lever/pull/hook the clip upwards once it was out of its groove, using the other nail ground to a sharp point to get the clip out of its groove first, so as to get the second one with indent in behind the clip, hope that makes sense....

Oh and do the next person a favour make sure the ends of the clip do not align with the slots in the leg.....if they align it can be REALLY hard to get the clips out as the slots are there to make it easy to get behind the clip...I think...

Agreed, don't line the slots up. Rather have the gap in the circlip adjacent to the slot that way, one screwdriver in the slot to ease the clip out and another screwdriver goes under the end of the clip to ease it up. Then work the second driver around. Takes about 3 seconds per leg.
