Hoping someone more knowledgeable than me can help..

a mate has a 49 A7 in bits & pieces with frame number ZA7S 205**

How can I tell if its a Star Twin or ordinary plunger?

That frame could have been either, what you need is the engine number and that must have the S in it. That frame number you have quoted is from 1951 and could have been a A7 or a A10.

The S in the frame number means its a sprung frame (plunger).

See if you can get the engine number from your mate.
