This job is a bit like sex; the more you do it, the better you get at it.

Yep you can't beat age and experience - got it down to a couple of seconds now *smiley4*

fit elastic bands stretched over the rocker box cover to hold the rockers adjusters up and hence cause downward pressure on the rods.

Well this is the one I always promise to try next time, and next time comes and goes and I forget about it, but it does sound a good idea
I have longish thinnish fingers and can just reach a digit in from front and back to feel if the rods are located, so generally it goes not too bad.

I agree with the comb thing - it does screw up the sealant
All the best - Bill

My most efficient way of doing it was to .... get someone else to locate the pushrods !! I used to hang around with a mate who had extremly long and moveable fingers , it was unbelievable to watch ,we'd struggle for 10mins to half an hour He'd come along laugh call us puny humans and sort it it two ticks ,when ever I have to do this job I think of Kenny Sach and wish he was around, always ended up dry as well which was an additional bonus, regards BobH.

Read an article in a bike magazine some time ago. The author used a rubber tube from about 6 mm diameter and zigzagged it between the pushrods to hold them in place.
After lowering the rocker box he removed the tube with a pair of nose pliers.
He claimed it worked each time.
Didn't try it myself though, so *dunno*

BA$T@RD of a job till I was told about the elastic band method... ( thanks Musky )   wink2
& if you put the sealant on the ROCKERBOX not the top of the gasket,
you can lay the comb in & out without making a mess...    *whistle*

May well have been MF 'cause He's only moved to Aigburth about 10 miles away and I can't find him despite trying regards Bob.
