Centre stand - is this a real one?
« on: 07.05. 2013 20:36 »
This bike is difficult to pull onto the stand. Does this look like a genuine A10 stand or has someone nailed this one on?

Not right for that frame. You need part # 42-4761

HI Keith,
What year is the frame? stands like this were used in 54 / 55
usually this is the easiest (relatively speaking) one to use
(my 2 cent opinion)

Yes, I agree with Chaterlea 25, it's for a 54-55 A7 or A10, however it doesn't seem to have the kick down lever attached to it, which really helps in getting the bike up onto the stand. Perhaps someone cut it off for ground clearance for those hairpin bends at speed. A friend of mine had a restored '55 A7 where this was done to the stand, and he had a heck of a time trying to get the bike up, even with a lifting handle, so I loaned him mine of my '54 GF, and he then had no problem. I did get it back after he modified his.

Its not uncommon for the later bikes to have the earlier stand fitted as aftermarket ones are fairly cheap and readily available, the early stands like you have usually do not have the bit welded on the side to assist in lifting the bike up, as they are made to suit the  goldie which does not need it well thats what a goldie owner told me anyway  *eek*

These are the 3 stands fitted to S/A A7/10's. The correct one for your frame would be much easier to use.
Cheers

something else of interest - in the last pic the centrestand would appear to be the wrong way around, then I thought it was the otherside of the road thing, then I thought  - no they drive on the same side as us

Bill wins the cupie doll. We all ride on the correct side of the road. Some places are more correct than others  *smile*.

The 4th stand is the same as the last but without the lever.
Used on bikes with siamese pipes, RGS etc.
