Hot brake.
« on: 03.07. 2013 16:57 »
Gentlemen.
Returning home recently after a ride I found smoke coming from my rear brake.  Probably my fault for setting it too closely.  Anyway, what was quite a good brake is now almost completely ineffective.  Is this common with modern linings?
Regards.

You'll burn and destroy any type of lining by running with it binding.

It may be tighter with your weight on the saddle. Back it off more.

I would pull that to bits and check it before you put yourself in danger. Don't just slacken it off.

Happy trails Colin

Maybe just badly glazed now so maybe just wants the linings 'roughing up'. Defo needs a look. Lucky you didn't burn off the finish on the hub.

Gentlemen.
Thanks for the advice.  I've already tried the 'roughing up' and have ridden enough miles to re-bed the shoes with little improvement.  Looks like new linings and more care setting up.  I guess the B31 will get more exercise for a week or two!
Best regards.
