Gearbox oil linking solve?
« on: 19.07. 2013 07:32 »
Hi to all,

I have a little problem with gearbox oil linking.I don't want to stop my bike after a ride and linking. *problem*
I replace everythink!
My question: If i replace the oil gearbox with grase-oil ( like that we put on all army BSA-Matchless... ) maybe have a problem with change gears or  destroy the gearbox? Maybe anyone tested this?

Thanks

Hi, although an oil /grease mix works on older gearboxes with engines of a low horse power. You have to think of the greater power transmited through an A10 gearbox  and quicker gearchanges where you need instant good lubrication.
I would replace seals and cure the leaks and use oil as recomended by the manufacturer.
I like bike, especially my 61'SR

Hi  renos-a10
there are bushes in there that rely in part from oil running down the case and through a feed hole into the bush, don't think you'd get enough if any grease to flow through those smallish feed holes.
Alf's reply I'd agree with

I'll 3rd that.
Try a little heavier oil, say 85/140 and look for an additive like seal swell.
I use Nulon G70  http://www.nulon.com.au/products/Specialty_Products/Manual_Gearbox_and_Diff_Treatment/#.UekKVKzout8
You'll be amazed how much better the box shifts and will help slow the leak.
Plunger boxes are a bugger in that the motor/gearbox has to come out to replace the seal/front sprocket. The other place they can leak is between the counter and main shafts.

First of all thanks!!

I fully recondition my plunger A10! On gearbox I replace  oil seal , all bushes and bearings. Now leaking between the gearbox and tha main engine.
So... because i don't want leaking i must take off the geabox to fix it!!!!!! The problem is release 50% engine to take off the gearbox.

The gearbox can not leak between it and the engine. Are you sure the oil is not coming from somewhere else like the rear of the cylinders or the engine breather.

Is it definitely gear box oil or engine oil.

I am sure that the oil comming from gearbox because i but oil 85/140. On geabox on the site between geabox and engine has plaques with 2 bolt.So i believe the oil coming out from this bolt.
What you think?

It is possible the oil is coming from those two bolts but it would be unusual if that is the case.

I would give it all a very good clean and try and pin point exactly where the oil is coming from before you pull it apart.
