assembling gearbox

Hi All, I'm about to put my gearbox together,and in the haynes manual it says to fit the camplate so that the plunger engages with neutural cutaway. Which is the neutral cutaway?

It is the shallow cutaway second from one end. All the gear positions are much deeper.
