I'm thinking about fitting a side stand on my 52 plunger golden flash, as the center stand is a bit worn. When up on the center stand, the rear wheel doesn't quite leave the ground, making the bike a wee bit wobbly. As well as that, it's sometimes awkward to lift up due to the weight. I've tried fitting spacers to stop the stand sitting at a too forward angle, will need to increase the thickness to keep the centre stand more upright.
I've seen bolt on side stands on e-bay, and am wondering if anyone has had any experiences with them, good or bad. I can foresee potential problems with fouling the exhaust pipes or crank cases.
Any tips or advice would be appreciated.
John

I have just fitted a side stand to my 1949 Star Twin plunger, I dont know if the bike is identical to your 52 A10 Plunger? There was indeed a clearance problem as to exactly where I wanted to fit the stand, but luckily it appears to be okay after a bit of fiddling and adjusting. Admittedly the bike now stands almost vertical and I have to look for a slight hole in the ground for it to stand without the risk of it falling over (Stop Laughing!) So gotta little bit more work to do on it yet.  *lol*

Side stands are not all that expensive, I think I picked mine up for about £16, a new after market one. All I can say is get one and give it a try if no good stick it on ebay.

I think our administrator has one fitted - see http://www.a7a10.net/BSA/flashpics/engine%20left.jpg for a picture.
I was hoping for a bit more detail

This stand was fitted to my 52 star twin.
It looks home made and is bolted to the left footpeg mount with the cup part fitting around the frame rail.
The actual stand is almost in line with the footpeg.
Its still in the bare frame state so I can't say how well it works.
cheers

The bracket to the frame looks much more robust than the simple bolt on ones I've seen on e-bay.
You say it looks home made, did a previous owner fit it?

Guy, that looks like an A65 side stand. I have seen that done on swinging arm frames. A much better stand but puts more leverage on the frame.
   Trev.

It should have a number cast onto it which will confirm what it is.
