« on: 09.12. 2008 12:08 »
hey gang
thinking about getting a larger capacity fuel tank for my 61 A10 - anyone know what year of the later (if any) of the BSA lightin/t-bolts tanks may bolt right up??

thx!

rather think it's a no go, but new tanks are being made for A10/A7 Goldie etc could be costly if no-one your side imports them ( from India I think?)
Ebay might be your best bet

If you look at an A10 frame from above, the top tube splays out to become a Y shape towards the seat. An A65 frame  top tube stops earlier to form a T shape. An A65 tank will probably need its tunnel widening at the back to fit the frame.

IMHO opinion a large capacity A65 tank isnt as pretty as an A10 one,  the A10 one has a flattish top, whilst the A65 is more rounded on the top and looks more bulbous.
A standard A10 tank has to be a better bet...
I take it you saw my recent post?
Cheers,
Iain

Bummer  - ok thanks Bill/Iain -

hi Iain - yes saw the post of your -tempting but shipping to the US makes that pricey!  - there are a few on US ebay right now - but they look mostly like early A65 tanks -  they lack the knee rubbers (which i really don't like that much anyways) i did see that burton makes some repo's - but they are $ too

guess i can just gas up ever 100 miles or so -ughh for long trips - but then again maybe my ass need the break from the seat by then anyways

thx
 Mike

What size tank have you got on there buddy? You say you need to fill up every 100 miles, maybe you have the American export 2 gallon tank. Why not just change it for the Std 4 gallon tank which UK models had fitted ? 4 gallon is the same capacity as the early A65's

yes i have the gallon US export - the std 4 gallon tank would be great -  except they don't come up often on the "bay" here in the states  while the A65 do  (thus my question for interchangeability)

when they (A10 4 gallon)do show up they apparently are made of gold

Have you thought about off-setting the cost of that four gallon tank by advertising your two gallon tank in EBAY.UK ?
I know that the two gallon tanks are rare and sought after here by the lads building specials.

This guy in another thread is after one for example.

that is a thought- and a good one -goes against my pack rat instincts *eek* - but if i don't find something by approaching riding season i will probably do just that

He's after a plunger one.
It would be a shame to part with an original piece like that.
Just bide your time. Something will show up at a price or time that you can afford it.
I've often justified new purchases through the selling off of unneeded possessions etc.

Hi Mike the $800 seems really expensive, but when you look at what restoring an old tank will cost its not so bad.
  old tank $100
repair  depending on how bad  $250???
  Chroming $500- $600
Badges, rubbers $150- $200  So really $800 isn't bad If you have to restore one.  I am not sure on the price of the Indian made chrome tanks?  That might be an option.  Jeff

Hi J
yes it the long run you are right -  burton bikes also has a cool goldie clubman tank for the same price (at least with the rising American dollar!)

Since it snowed 2 days ago and my home's   heating oil reservoir tank sprang a leak (ARGHHHHHHHH) i will have to keep searching  (well i guess there is the plastic purchase so maybe!)
