a7 or a7ss
« on: 19.08. 2013 20:10 »
hi,just been reading through a number of post, and it got me thinking have i got an a7 or a7ss? daft question you may think.my father brought the bike in the early eighties and always called it an a7 but the crank cases say ca7ss with hc stamped below the number.so is it an a7 rebuilt with ss crank cases or an a7ss ? how can i tell which it is .without any major strip down of course! as far as i can tell its a 61 frame with earlier crank cases and on a 64 plate.  *conf*

cheers Rob

Hi Rob,

You could always contact the UK BSA Owners' Club and ask for a Dating Certificate for the bike.

This would tell you what model it originally was, the date it left the factory and the dealer it was despached to.

The certificates are professionally done and could be either kept with the bike's documentation or framed and displayed in a suitable position in your home or garage.  They are available to both members and non-members for a minimal fee.
