« on: 25.08. 2013 09:41 »
Hi, I have bought an alloy sump plate and have now realised I need extended studs or bolts.
Any idea where to get them please?

You should be able to get them where you bought the plate, but if not, have a look here;

These are normally made by SRM unless it is a copy. Mine came with allen bolts from SRM who are a great company. They have a huge website and are very helpful. Try them ?

And actually, SRM now sends Allen bolts with the correct threads.

It's worth considering some rod (maybe stainless) and a couple of the appropriate dies (and stock) = studs whenever you need them, with a bit of practice.

I think the ones on the degroot link are standard length and wrong thread, should be bsw/cei.
I made my own studs 1-1/4" long with 1/2" of whit thread and 3/8" of cei thread.
If using cap head screws, would need to be 7/8" to 1" lomg whit thread.

DraganFly have/had a supply that were reasonably easy to peruse on their website, but it seems they've changed it all and made it impossible to use,but if you type "studs', and a size you may find what you want. Also try 'Catalogues'
Otherwise just Try Lightning Spares or do a gaggle search

 Sorry can't help more

Quite right Musky, didn't look well enough (typed the message on a smartphone)
They do sell the right ones, but only in a kit together with the sump plate.

Lyford Classics do the sump plate so should do the studs also, probably most of the usual traders will have them

I usually go to a boating shop & buy some Whitworth bolts in stainless.
Cut off the head & tap to CEI and you are done.
Funny enough stainless bolts are usually cut into the correct size rod where as plain steel blts are roll formed from thinner tube.

 Yeah Trev,
I've done a lot of that too, and don't want to split hairs, but it's worth keeping in mind that a lot of bolts that are sold as Whitworth, are actually UNC, in most cases doesn't matter, but when the thread form is important, it does matter.....WW=55˚/UNC=60˚

The way I see it, it's not a true Whitworth (bolt)unless it takes a Whitworth spanner- eg; WW 5/16" bolt =1/4"ww spanner, UNC 5/16"= 1/2" spanner (A/F)...am I wrong.??

 cheers, duTch

Ok chaps, i have searched and searched and cannot find extended studs or bolts.
I am a total novice at this stuff but really enjoy sorting the problems and making the bike my own.
Could somebody please post the exact bolt type i require to fit the plate.Just the exact thread type and length please. As i intend to replace the studs with bolts.
 Thank you for your patience.
 Regards Paul.

G'day Paul.
1/4" BSW x 1" long allen head screws. Use a thread sealant and spring washers. Be careful with the case threads, they will strip out if you over tighten the screws.
Studs are the better option. 1/4" x 1-1/4" long with 1/2" of BSW thread and 3/8" of CEI (cycle 26 tpi) thread. There's not a lot of room to get a spanner on the nuts so I use the extended tappet cover nuts.
Cheers
