3 spring clutch
« on: 26.08. 2013 17:41 »
Every time I take something apart on this bike I find more horrors.
This time it's the clutch, a six spring device with only 3 springs fitted. The cork inserts were falling out of the plates as I dismantled it, a sign of overheating methinks. The primary chain was a bit loose and had a couple of very stiff links. At one time in its life the primary chain was so loose it's gouged the bottom of the casing.
Funny thing is it worked fairly well, no slip, just dragging when hot causing crunchy gear changes.
Amazing how much abuse, lousy maintenance and general bodging that these bikes will tolerate.

G'day Rob. That's a novel way to upgrade to a 60's type clutch LOL.
The springs would more than likely be heavier than std.
She'll feel like a new bike with that lot fixed properly.
Cheers
