clutch spring nuts

Can someone advise me of the correct thread & size of the clutch spring retaining nuts
on a 6 spring clutch please..
I want to order the smaller 1/2 lock nuts...

               Buy a set of 1/4" BSF Nyloc nuts and do away with the locknut.

Wilko, WoozA has tried nylock but can't screw the nut on far enough to pick up the nylon. I suggested lock nuts.
I don't know (or want to) much about those horrible 6 springers. Binned mine when I got the '57.

Yeah I did that Trev, the Nyloc nuts are much thicker than stock nuts
& because I have all new clutch plates the clutch nuts have to be adjusted a long way out for the clutch to be disengaged,  
and the Nyloc nuts are only just into the Nyloc as Musky mentioned.  
I dont want a nut coming off & flying around the primary..
& I'm 2 cheap to buy a 4 spring & belt drive conversion   *red*

I thought about that Trev...  but I dont own a lathe,  so I tried grinding a few down..   *work*

resulted in burnt finger tips & melted the nyloc...    *red*

Surely two nuts are longer than one locknut? How do you fit a locknut if not enough thread for nyloc?

Not close by Trev...  and their not too expensive to buy..

Wilco mate... their 1/2 nuts.. so I'm hopeing 2 = 1 ordinary nut...  & will lock on
then the nyloc nuts I have are larger again..

screw them so far onto an old bolt (from the nyloc end) and hacksaw a bit off the end

Hi Wozza, just had athought re your previous post when you said" 'cos of new plates ,not enough length left to get the 2 nuts on " or something similar , now very familar with the 6 springers ( putting it mildly )  but wasn't it mentioned that some of these units had less plates than others and so couldn't you reduce the number to suit, just my 2 pennyworth but def not said from a point of knowledge. best of luck getting it sorted ,BobH.

Hi Bob,... TopDad..   *smile*  I had the same idea about removing one of each plate..
so asked a very knowlagable friend.. & moderator of the BEST BSA a7 A10 forum on the net..
He suggested that the pressure plate would most likely fowl the clutch centre & slip like
some ucky stuff off a shovel ????   *????*
