Just what can't you Aussies build?
« on: 17.10. 2013 13:48 »
Must admit that over the years during many posts it's clear that our friends in oz treat what we would consider difficult/ impossible engineering calamities as everyday minor irritations but this guy as taken that into a totally new level.Basically a  farmer in your outback who had been introduced to flying by ex RAAF Uncles goes out and nearly breaks his back can't farm anymore so decideds to build SPITFIRES , not only that but takes himself into a barn and with the aid of a ex engineer builds from scratchand plans an exact 90% scale spitfire , takes it to a strip test flys it and declares it perfect has " after a few minutes the engine cut and he does a perfect dead stick landing whereas other planes would have been a handful" . Makes 'em in kit form for a few years and then gets the offer from our US cousins to set up there ,where he his now and making 'em and sending 'em all over the world , have a look at this link http://www.supermarineaircraft.com/About.htm quite an incredable guy and story

I thought that was going to be about this
http://thekneeslider.com/5000cc-v-twin-motorcycle-engine-for-sale/

I saw it at the local  Brizzy Laverda Concourse mid 90's, when he revved it the whole thing jumped about six inches,... and it sounded like this.

I see on Dutch's 'kneeslider' site a writeup about E.J. Potter 'The Michigan Madman'.
apparently he died of old age - I'm surprised he lasted that long.
I saw him at the Surfers Paradise drags years ago.
Now he was one wild boy.
He had a V8 in a drag bike and he rocked it off a stand to get going - full bore.
There was smoke every where and it went sideways across the track before it straightened up.
He had the throttle wide open all the way. I've no idea how he stayed on it.
There was a story he got his tyres from firestone for free as they had some sort of unconditional guarantee.
He'd be lucky to get a quarter mile out of his back one.
RIP E.J.

Got to admire aussies, if it where only for the names they gave to there inventions.
I mean "woomera"...., "stump jump plough...., or "froth flotation"...??!!!
Looks like coming from a certain kind of catalogue which I will not mention here....*smile*
