Mirrors
« on: 20.10. 2013 23:41 »
Looking through pictures posted of members bikes I realised that there seems
to be no common style of mirror's... ( if at all )   *????*
I hope to get my bike RWCed & Club plated in the near future &
was wondering what is the best style which meet the standard for mirrors in Victoria Aus ???

Cheers WozzA

Geez Wozza, dunno 'bout Vic, but I'd guess not too much diff. from Qld for pre -70ish, (pre July'76 really- that was when indicators became mandatory, and maybe other stuff), in our case so long as there is 'a' mirror you should qualify, better if it's something close to 'a standard/popular for the period'...depending how the assessor interprets the guidelines. (ADR's didn't happen till the '80s..?)
I'd say have a yarn to whoever you'll have do the checkover and see what is required...?

 good luck, duTch

In NSW a club member is nominated as an examiner. My club has four, I'm one (ah that's how he got the cafe rego'd). If I'm shown a period advert for their bike showing no mirror I'll pass it. It would be a matter of going through some sales brochures and look for one similar. I can't see one in the 54-57 parts book.  My '51 doesn't need a brake light as it was an opp extra, std from '54.

Good to know about the brake light, though I thought I saw a brake switch in the parts book, and I like to have one, but if for some reason it stops working, (like my comical front one ) I have an 'out'... *smile*

Usually with these things, if it's fitted it has to work.

Whatever you choose, just don't use the seventies style (you know, the long upright bar with a kink towards the outside and a round mirror on top, sometimes adjustable in height) *pull hair out*

Just an opinion, but on a caferacer, the round bar end type looks the best. On a regular one the square type. But like I said its just an opinion.....

They have standards in Australia?   *smile* (that's a Kiwi joke)

I think the Halycon round ones look best and are much better made than some of the cheaper ones available.

We don't need standards Andy, everything down here is special.
Round bar ends on the cafe and rectangular on the '51.
Cheers

I had a round handlebar fitted only a cheap variant but lasted 7 yrs ,few vibes but worked fine I'll be fitting another during the winter has I really missed it on the few rides out this year that I managed ,my neck won't swivel like it used to!! so thats the real object ..safety, regards BobH.
