SR engine prefix
« on: 28.11. 2013 23:42 »
Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any info on the engine of my 58' Super Rocket. Under the engine number the case is stamped HHC,seems that designates high compression pistons.the engine no matches the old green log book that came with the bike,is that a standard stamping on all Super
Rockets or maybe a special order or something like that? Martin.

Hi Martin.
HHC stands for high compression, and is correct specification for Super Rocket.
You should hope for DA10 prefix to your engine number, which denotes beefed up bottom end - one piece crank, stronger bearings and thicker barrel flange.

Hi Martin,

HC = high comp,   plus Spitfire 357 cam = HHC, as far as I know

HHC should also have the sports (356) cam.
Cheers
Just saw John's post while I was typing. I thought the 357 didn't appear till '60 for the spitfire and '61 for the SR.

My '59 Super Rocket has a CA 10R too, but only "HC".

For a 58 Super Rocket the Engine numbers should be from number CA10R 6001 onwards.

The 59 Super Rocket engine numbers should be CA10R 8193 onwards.

The DA10R engine numbers pre-fix was used from 1960 to 1963  super rocket engines.

HHC or HC is just a reference to high compression and not relevant to numbering.

Hope this helps

as John, aka Chaterley says the extra H stands for high lift cam eg 356/357 depending on the year
