Just an idea, remove the oil scavenge cover, and see if you can invent a way of locking it (without damaging anything!) Got some balancing drilling on mine, 8mm fits nice (if I ever should need to lock the crank). See picture.

hexagon SRM nuts - but no way would it fit
Return it for an exchange, and let them cover all the postage! & they would surely want to investigate, to avoid any future problems.

A bit of old primary chain held in a vice could be used to lock the sprocket .

this effectively emulates the other options of using the back brake while the bikes in gear or holding the clutch.

I normally tighten and loosen mine with a nice soft brass drift. Not pretty but it doesn't damage the nut and I lockwire it.

personally I would only ever support the pistons to support the pistons  *whistle* , never to lock the motor for tightening or loosening bolts. *eek*

Much easier to do before the primary comes off, but a bit late in your case this time around.
A good rider periodically checks all nuts and bolts with a spanner to see that they are tight - Instruction Manual for BSA B series, p46, para 2.

I used Roger Sharman from Cake Street classics (in Suffolk), he has been excellent on the mechanical stuff, the rest having been done many years ago and never used.  HE even backed up some of the parts he put on (side stand, foot rest rubbers) which he admits are not that good (Was*****l) but still gave a full refund, The problem is the word reasonable, I thought he was reasonable because he did what I wanted in the budget given (well almost but I added stuff). BUT that does not mean cheap maybe worth giving him a call and or visit and talking it through with him.

I would second that recommendation for Roger at Cake Street. Can't really comment on the price, but his work is absolutely top notch.
