A10 bushings
« on: 05.01. 2014 16:17 »
Hello!
I intend to produce several new bushings in the engine and gearbox. How much larger the hole in the bushing to be than the diameter of the shaft?

G'day Marqs, the general rule is 1 to 1.5 thou. But with crush on the bush when installed it will close up. Always, if at all possible, heat case to drop in bush and line ream bush to fit shaft.

Hello!

Do you mean from 0.01 to 0.015 millimeters larger than the shaft?

Regards / Markus

Hi Marqs, no not mm would be imperial size . a thousandth of and inch  0.0001 = imperial where 25.4mm= 1 inch. My maths is useless but thats the basic oneof our engineers will explain far better than I but thats the jist of it. regards BobH

0.001" (a "thousandth") = 0.0254 mm

Bob, One too many zeros makes it a "ten thousandth" (0.0001"). A typo, I beleive. Now, if I only knew something about motorcycles.

Hi,
the rule of thumb is  0.001" - 0.0015" per inch of diameter.

So if you have a three quarter inch shaft ,the clearance needs to be  0.750" x 0.001" = 0.00075" for the lower limit,

                                                                                             0.750" x 0.0015" = 0.0011" for the upper limit,
This info is from an engineering hand book .

   Regards Ken.

Thanks Richard, typical financial adviser -- can't add up properly-- I knew someone would sort it out for our friend, regards BobH.

You can buy a special reamer somewhere?
