SRM End Feed Oil Galleries
« on: 30.01. 2014 17:11 »
I've been looking at Beeza Bills A10 timing bearing conversion but I'm not too sure of the method used for the end feed - how do SRM do it - anyone know?

From what I understand, their is a "quill" fitted in to the end of the crankshaft and the oil is fed to the big ends through it.  BSA Bill's version has some piping and a "top hat" section  to get the oil to the quill.  However, SRM does the same thing but has the oil traveling through a modified timing cover.  Some time since I looked at BSA Bill's configuration so stand to be corrected.  BSA Bill's has the advantage the engine can be run with the timing cover off.

There is a sort of bridge between the top left and far right oil pump mounting holes (looking as the pump is fitted). The oil is diverted in the pump to the top left hole and carried through the bridge to the end of the crank.

Yes Bill had fabricated a sort of bridge but I understand that SRM Lumiwelds a piece of alloy in the timing cover but how does the oil get there?

I think they do it like I have done; there is a dowel low down that locates the inner timing cover. This is replaced with a hollow one and drillings are made in the crankcase to get the oil to it.
The dowel hole in the inner timing cover is drilled all the way through and goes from there into the new inserted bit in the timing cover.
Keep an eye on my salt bike thread; I'll be covering this bit soon.

Thank you Briz - again!
And Wardleybob - you spent all that money on a conversion and didn't photograph it?
