Reviving post as cannot pm yet. What colour rattle cans did you use for red. Also, does petrol adversely affect rattle can spray ? Thanks from a new member

Hi, next time I'm at the workshop I'll find the paint name & code for the Porsche red....normal clearcoat aerosols aren't very petrol resistant (though with lots of polish on it you might be ok!!), in the UK you can buy petrol proof aerosol lacquer from Halfords but I've had problems with it giving a slightly 'milky' finish. You can get a 2 pack aerosol lacquer from specialist car paint suppliers that is far better.....sorry can't recall its name right now!

Haven't tried it myself, but I've had a couple customers tell me that here in the USA the auto paint supply stores can put their paint in aerosol cans. May be worth checking if your local suppliers can do likewise.

Halfords do that (put paint in spray tins) but you need a code, trouble with spray tins is getting enough of them in the first attempt else it's difficult to get a match again.
Buy a compressor (Aldi do one that is fine for small jobs like a bike, maybe get a better gun (£20 - £25 ), Go to your nearest car paint shop, they will have a code and can get you what they call spirit paint ( acrylic or cellulose based as they use water based stuff these days) and thinners, all this will cost you £200 - £250 but you'll probable spend about as much on aerosols trying to get a match and you will still have a compressor and gun for other jobs or to sell on

Yes, in the Uk most car paint suppliers will make up aerosols in any colour for about £12 a can.....I bought 2 of each colour to do the A10 but had enough left over to paint a Honda as well....so with primer and lacquer it came to about £50 all in. The colours I used were Subaru Light Brown (its gold really!) 87F and Porsche Brilliantrot 831.

my present bikes tank, oiltank and toolbox were done professionally due to a problem I had on the tank ,when sprayed with aerosols it initially dryed  well but overnight developed little air bubbles .I rubbed it down twice then gave it to my friend who did a good job now 10 yrs ago still looks ok but as some little air bubbles near the front right side. Prior to that I have always used "carplan" aerosols with excellent results, Bob
