hi,
hope you find a good quality replacement lock, i am on my fourth! all of poor quality, but from different suppliers!( two of the keys were even the same!) the third from india.that one broke in my hands when i tried to turn it.but to be fair they replaced it with a new one quite quickly.although this one looked like it had been hand finished and turned very smoothly.

Hi all, good topic for me to jump into..having fitted the roller bearings to the headstock the upper and lower yokes are now about 5mm longer distance between. I recognised that I would need to "adjust" the shrouds to allow for this but didn't consider the steering lock. Having fitted it now, its about 5-10mm too short in throw, has anybody had this issue and solved it or .....??
All the usual suppliers seem to only have the standard lock, any ideas appreciated, cheers

Well, I removed the grub screw and ended up chipping a bit of the paint surrounding the lock.
It's made my decision that the nacelle needs re-spraying so I've got the fun job of removing the front forks tomorrow.
Any tips?

The joys of restoration!

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi Shaun.
If the paint is only chipped around the lock, this is the top cover, which is separate from the nacelle. You will only need to remove the top nuts (Chrome fork nuts) and the cover should come off.
If you decide to strip the forks, disassembly is easier than reassembly, as the difficult bit is gettting the fork back into the yokes, a tool is available to assist, I,ve used broom handles filed down to fit, but then made a tool from one of the Chrome fork nuts. You will find loads of tips under the forum search function.
Working on your bike front end is easier if you jack under the engine or frame, also consider hoist from garage roof.
If you decide to strip the forks further, consider seal and or bushing change, this is when the fun begins, with circlip and seal holder removal.

Thanks.
They came out quite easy. Screwed the top nuts out and gave them a bang with a poly hammer.
Glad I took the nacelle off now as noticed hidden corrosion so will sort all that now rather than later.

Cheers,
Shaun
