A10 Gearbox
« on: 05.04. 2014 19:30 »
I hope somebody has had this same problem and can give me a solution. I'm rebuilding my A10 and have fitted the crankcase, barrels, gearbox and clutch into the frame I n preparation for timing. However, even though I can turn the engine over in neutral on the kickstart and select all four gears I am unable to turn the back wheel while in neutral. I'm assuming I have made some sort of cock up with the gear selectors but am not sure. Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Mike

G'day Mike,  *welcome*.
That's an interesting one!
Can you turn the motor over in gear with the back wheel (take the plugs out)?
Using the kick lever in gear turns the back wheel as well as motor?
Is it really neutral your selecting?
Lining up the dots on the selector can sometimes be a bit hit & miss.

Thanks for that but have now isolated the problem. The first gear pinion has not fitted onto the lay shaft properly by about 1mm leaving the final pinion protruding by the same amount . This meant that when the box was together the lay shaft was locked in place hence it wouldn't turn. Didn't spot it when assembling the box unfortunately.

Regards. Mike
