Filings in fork oil
« on: 23.04. 2014 18:20 »
Hi all,

Drained forks today and noticed quite a bit of metal in the oil on one side.
Before I strip them down, any ideas?

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi Shaun.
Could be packing shims for top bush breaking up. You tend to get a tapping noise from the forks when the bush is not shimmed correctly. Shims can get damaged during fork assembly and bush wear. Shims are available 0.005", 0.010", 0.020" and 0.030". So can be quite fagile.

Thanks. Think I'll put some new oil in and run them a bit. See how they handle then drain them again.
