Wobbly mag

Had a quote for mag reconditioning that spurred me on to DIY again (really expensive for me and would not be done til October)
It worked fine - fires 1st start, no heat issues and the bearings are only about 5000 miles old, (new insulators etc) but the tapered drive pinion is slightly wobbly
Is this normal or??

                 If your gear is a bit wobbly, the "repairer" didn't true the armature when he reassembled it, I would say.

Hmmm, I am very afraid - even if it's expensive
The steel taper (which appears to be connected to the rotor shaft in some way, through the brass end of the timing side of the rotor assembly) wobbles - it can be moved up and down while the bearing is seated (which does not move), by roughly 3 to 5 thou, would there be a mating of parts here?

                        If the steel section is loose in the brass, I'm afraid that you have big trouble.
I have seen this mainly on the small drive end armatures and I don't think that there is an easy fix.
Maybe a new armature?

I can repair this, but I would advise going for a magneto exchange as the small bearing type tend to give problems as the bearing is not as well secured as the large bearing type. Send me a message if you would like to discuss this further.
