Idiot of the day
« on: 27.06. 2014 17:49 »
IOTD is me,i went out to fire the bike up A7 to give it a little run,it did'nt fire after about five kicks so i turned the petrol off so as not to flood it,a couple of more kicks and she fired up and i went and stood outside the garage out of breath but quite pleased with myself.

After a few minutes the engine cut out so i jumped on her and started kicking again, would she start would she hell,i kicked and kicked and she would'nt fire up again i was dripping with sweat and exhausted so i gave up and went in the house.

I then realised i had left the petrol tap on so went out to turn it off,  yes you guest it it was allready off,i forgot to turn it back on after first start up *conf* *whistle*

Well, you've had your workout for the day. Kicking a recalcitrant BSA twin must burn quite a few calories.

Careful, you might start walking in circles due to the right leg being stronger.
Did similar myself after I fitted a secret cut out switch.

I had a couple of blokes push me bike around the work car park for 10 minutes before I realize I'd done the same thing...  (secret cut out switch ) *doh*
They were relieved when it started...

I didn't tell them I'd found the cause of the trouble  ....     *red*

I checked the oil in my primary chaincase i took the level plug out and the copper washer had the plug imprint on it,so i thought i would anneal it,i held it with a bit of wire and set to it with my blow lamp,it had a funny smell but i thought it was just the oil burning off,no it was a fiber washer it just turned to ash. *doh*

Like my mate who'd couldn't start his Velocette due to complete lack of compression. He'd removed his plug to help clear the cylinder following a carb' problem and completely forgot that he'd removed it! We now call him 'Hole in the Head Mike'.

Looks like I'm part of the elite section of this esteemed forum ,guiltyof all of the previous (except the plug ) including getting mates to near exhaustion pushing me and my short wheel landie round a carpark ,it had a second ingnition switch ,which I'd forgotten ,switched on and it zoomed off (well for a landie) leaving em nearly dead , didn't ever ever dare tell 'em what I done , Cheers BobH, now wheres the garage ??

... idiot of the year here, not checking on my frame \ chrome (stored in the back of the garage, engine still under work).  A few inexpensive cans of protective oil\silicone\whatever would have done the job, some may polish away, but too late for some parts now. Shame. The price of complacency and laziness  *conf*

Bob I reckon it'll be right where you left it, probably the last place you look...... *smile*
  having said that.....
I have my hands safely screwed to the bottom of my feet so I can't put them up at admission time, so am typing this with my nose- well ok fibbing a bit, but I just spent the morning making/bodging up some starter pawls for the chainsaw, and now can't find 'em anywhere, so sat down to see what trouble I can cause here instead.!!
