Strange brake....

Wondering if anyone knows anything about this front brake on a Norton on ebay....

The bike looks like it'd be fun. Not sure what the brake is off but it's hydraulic operated.

 Interesting brake, looks like a kind of disk operation concept- hard to see if it's double sided..?...and the hose arrangement isn't set up the same as the drawing
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

Looks like it's double sided, there's a torque arm and hose on that side. Rear disc as well.
Hope someone buys it, as shame to see it parted out.

Getting spare parts for it could definitely be a bit of a problem then!!!!
Thinking about it overnight though I'm sure I've read something somewhere about it....Tuning for Speed maybe?
Looking at the drawing the friction material seems to be part 21 but I still can't really work how its brought into contact, looks like the chap had an interesting folder with it so should find out more soon....
Definitely agree breaking it would be a real shame.....if it doesn't go before I see it then I'll probably rescue it to keep this one company!!

Did go and see the bike (and bought it!), apparently built in France and raced there til the previous owner bought it back a couple of years ago....
All he really knew about the brake was the exploded diagram in the info folder and was told it was designed and made in Bristol and sold as an add on for early Commando's....so will be doing some research!

Found out about the brake....its French made, in approx. 1973, designed by 2 brothers named Luchier originally for endurance racing though a few were sold in the US, fitted to Commando's.
It has slave cylinders each side , pressing clutch like friction plates onto the hub.....
The bike itself was built in France for racing...to Domiracer engine spec I think, though all the paperwork is in French so I might be wrong!!
I'm planning a winter re build Musky and then using it for parades at classic events....too old and too fragile to race it myself nowadays!

Whilst I'm in the middle of pulling my new acquisition to bits I thought I'd post a couple more pics of the brake...
It consists of a pair of brake plates with integral slave cylinders that clamp the whole hub between them, quite a clever design really, maybe prone to getting a bit too hot and with something of an issue as far as the torque arms go....since the brake plates move in and out the arms have to be mounted on sliding pins....now very worn!
Luckily there seems to be plenty of friction material left and the seals are round in section instead of being square so should be easy enough to replace...

Put a pivot in the torque arms .... like the early Honda 750 4 front caliper mount.

Yes, basically like an internal disc brake except with a complete circle of friction material instead of a pad....
Having thought more about it I'm not so sure that overheating will be that big a problem though, for one thing there is a larger area to actually get hot and its fairly well ventilated, also the separation between the part that actually gets hot and the hydraulic fluid is more than in a normal caliper arrangement....
Not totally sure what either the Honda or Bmw design is like though I'll look for some pics....the problem is the torque arm has to stop the brake plate from rotating (obviously!!) but also allow it to move freely in and out when the brake works...at the moment that's done with a hardened pin on the plate and just a hole drilled in the arm....I'm thinking of bushing the hole and then using the rubber seals from a car type single piston caliper so it can be kept greased....
