Loctite or not...

I've just done my first 50 miles after a rebore and all was/is well except for a slight leak at the rocker oil pipe connection to the rocker box. I tightened the nuts at my halfway stop, and they have needed a little more tightening again when I got back home. Last year I covered just about 350 miles after buying the bike and had to tighten these nuts a couple of times. Does anyone use Loctite on these?

I use copper washers on there, haven't had them slacken tho
Loctite comes in different strengths, unless advised otherwise I'd start with a weaker version and see if it holds them, if not progress upwards

Thanks Bill... at the moment I have black fibre washers. I will replace them with copper before resorting to loctite.

And anneal them before you fit them.
If you can find some thicker ones then all the better.

I've tried red fibre washers on Triumph rocker drain banjos and they came loose.

This what I use: Dowty washers. I tried fibre, and copper washers neither of which sealed effectively. These sealed well.

Try the proper fiber washers designed for this, and soak them in gas before mounting them, works for me.  Have also tried copper ones, prefer the fiber ones.  Soak in ethanol free gas if it is available.

Hi K1100, I had the same problem as you after engine rebuild. I eventually put a dab of green thread lock on the bolts. The bolts never loosened and the leaks stopped. I used red fibre washers behind the oil union and flattened the rear face of the union on a surface plate.  Cheers Erico

I'm getting totally pis er fed up with my rocker feeds . Fixed 'em 3 times ,new fibre washers previously copper washers took her for spin on Sunday great ride now just been in the garage and clean oil on the head and ski sloop . Bolts not loose just not seating properly. A101960 where do you get those dowty washers from they look like the ones I've had before with a full engine gasket set . I'll give it another go tonight. Dowty washers or seals as they are sometimes called can be had from any place that deals in hydraulic bits and pieces. Anyway, I have sent you a P.M. I have found a couple in my garage.

Sometimes the face machined into the cylinder head isn't perpendicular to the threaded hole.  That'll make you scratch your head!

Thanks TT , "a line is said to be perpendicular to another line if the 2 lines intersect at a right angle "
So my thinking ; back of oil connector flat + surface on rocker case flat bolt passing through would be (should be ) perpendicular .

not used to killing brain cells that way , back to work .
