Enfield brake
« on: 25.08. 2014 14:26 »
anybody ever tried fitting a  Royal Enfield 7" front twin leader brake to an A7/10 rear wheel?

Could be an interesting project if there's not some insurmountables

I must admit after read a thread about TLS brakes and being a bit worried about the brake on the A7 I wondered about these brakes after I found this

Yep - similar to what I saw, they have come down a bit on postage a decent price if it could be done or quite a waste if it can't be.

Some time ago I came on one at a boot sale, it was still in it's package and had "post office damage" red label or similar, didn't know hat it was off and neither did the bloke selling it, my mate dissuaded me at the time but I went back to see what it was going for at the end of the day - the bloke had packed up and gone - ah well faint heart and all that

Hi,
you had to look for the direction of rotation if you fit the TLS in your bike(you shouldn't change it!). Royal Enfield fitted it on left in front.  As I made my TLS I can't use this type because in my A7 the brake plate is on the right side in front.

This brake probably can be changed to fit on left side at rear on most A7.

Exactly the info I was looking for Rudolf  -  many thanks

So looks like no go, and continue to look for a BSA 7" item at auto jumbles where no body knows what  it is (some chance)

To move the front brake on most BSA's you just swap over the fork legs.
If your model has the twin mudguard bolts at the bottom it is really easy.
If you have one with odd mudguard stay mounts then you need to do a litle tinwork & either make new stays or a little extension piece.

I was intending to put it on the rear Trevor, would possibly need a bit machining and a brake stay made somehow, but if direction of rotation is an issue as Rudolf suggests then maybe it's a no go, needs a bit of thinking about, might be possible to change the cams to get the leading edge of the shoe to bite position if that makes sense.
