Gold star frame differences
« on: 25.08. 2014 18:26 »
Hi folks, need a bit of help. Been offered a 1959 gold star dbd34 need to check if frame is right and not a made up one. Know about the kick in lower frame is there any other differences what I should look for? Don't want to pay a lot of money for this and find its a good ringer. Not been on road for a long time still on old folding log book and frame numbers do not match with it which makes me think it could be an altered b31 frame but can't be sure any help would be great.

HI,
The GS frame should be numbered *B32 as in the link given,
The 54/55 B31 frames are similar to GS frames but do not have rearset footrest mounts although these can be easily added,
The GS frames do not have the plate and gusset for the steering lock at the top of the steering head
Apparently only GS top fork yokes have a cast in numbe on the underside ???
The bottom yokes have threaded in bolts to adjust / limit the steering angle

Before I would part with GS type cash I would have the details verified by the GS oowners club

The GS top yoke does indeed have a cast number, 42-5010, from memory.
It is the same one as used on the A7/A10/B31/B33 in 1954, with no steering lock.
The later ones with the steering lock also have a number cast into them, obviously different.

Hi Trev,
Ok,
I have an early 55 B33 and this has a lock and number 42-5035 underneath,

I have another set of yokes without lock or number from I believe an M20/1 ???

G'day John,
I have seen a top yoke with the numbers 65---- ? on it, don't know what it belongs to.
Plunger yokes don't have locks or numbers but are obviously different from S/A types.
