1955 Shooting Star Paint Scheme
« on: 24.09. 2014 03:59 »
Hi All,

I am trying to finish of a restoration of a 1955 Shooting Star and have come up against some conflicting paint schemes.
I need to know if the top and bottom headstem yokes are meant to be painted light green or the dark green same as the frame.

I have looked at photo's on the web and have found some bikes have both dark green, both light green and top light green bottom dark green.

Does anybody have an original 1955 Shooting Star that has not been repainted that can confirm the correct paint details.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Andy

G'day Andrew.
I'm 99% sure that they were both (top & bottom) dark green as the frame.
Cheers

So does that make Markku a 1%er *whistle*
I can say I've never seen a live original.
I had a '71 A65L with a Dove Grey frame with Dove Grey triple clamps. *dunno*

Thanks for your replies, I am going to just paint the bike and if it is wrong so be it.
I will stay with the all dark green but can always change it if its wrong, but somehow I think once its painted thats the way its going to stay.

Cheers

Andy

Having looked at the pictures, the light green on the top yoke looks right.

Hi Andy.  I spent a lot of time trying to confirm the exact same issue but on the last A7 Star-Twins that were the first to use to 2 tone green colour schemes (1953/54)  After viewing several unrestored examples, I came to the conclusion that the lower yolk was in dark green as per the frame but the upper was in the light green to match the cowl.   I would think that this was carried this over to the Shooting Star models.   I hope that helps.    Regards, Peter

Hi,

Thanks for the update, I have changed my mind and will go with the light green on top and dark on the bottom.

I have seen a few bikes with this combination and it look ok to me.

Cheers

Andy

Not sure if you've found the correct paint matches yet. I had mine professionally matched against original parts. The light green match was Citroen green-silver (or vert-argent as they say en France) and the green was Rover connaught green. I think both colours were from the early 1980's. I'm pretty sure the yoke colours are what you decided on - the dark green for the top yoke would look horrible against the diver's helmet shroud. Good luck!
