Cast can be welded - but I'd say a job for an expert in that situation, could cost more than another hub which would be my choice
All the best - Bill
1961 Flash - stock, reliable, steady, fantastic for shopping
1959 Rocket Gold Flash - blinged and tarted up  would have seizure if taken to  Tesco

As Bill says it could be welded. Another option would be to make a sleeve to shrink over it, 2 thou should be enough.

It looks like a P.O. drilled a hole to stop the crack but it didn't work.

That small hole is meant to be there Richard, after you put the bearing in and then screw in the retaining plate a small split pin goes through that hole to stop the plate unscrewing.

This has probably been caused by the bearing being belted in crooked, I would vee out the crack and weld it and then do as Muskrat says and machine the outer and then shrink a sleeve over the top. If you just weld it I think it would crack again when the bearing was fitted.

As Bill says finding another hub would be the easiest but this one can be repaired effectively with a bit of work.

Oh yeah. I remember doing that.

Hello Thanks

I think will try to find another hub, and try to mend this for another project.

nice to get fast reply , the painter sandblasted  the hub and a mistake to paint. it on the inside as well.

maybe good if the crack was old .

Try and find the look-alike 1968 A65 Lightening brake hub. The shoes are wider, and the brake is significantly stronger.

G'day Ilkka.
The only problem I could imagine is that welding/brazing it might expand it to the extent that the bearing would be loose in the hub, depends on the expertise of the welder. For my money I'd just sleeve it. That part of the hub would need to be skimmed first then sleeve made to fit -2 thou".

hi guys/Ilkka, a good welder could weld it no problem also arc welding would normally shrink the item rather than expand it,cheers
