Hi,
A couple of people mentioned checking the head for flatness.
Do iron heads warp?

Most (but not all) rings that you buy will need to be gaped, very carefully with a file.
The pistons look to be about 8:1.

Very pretty. I do, however, wonder about the angle of the headlight bucket? Surely even a 6 volt light can aim a little higher?

  My mate told me that before I reassemble, to not wash the bores with kero or petrol or anything other than hot soapy water, otherwise it's likely to smoke like buggery, so I did and it works fine- no discernable exhaust smoke that I can see. ...!

I left my block in Caustic soda for weeks before I got around to working on it. I oiled the pistons and bores on assembly so had smoke on first start but no other problems.

I had a similar problem with excessive smoking, to cut a very long story short it was found to be a loose valve guide which was moving up and down in the cylinder head which was  pumping oil into the inlet, check if your inlet valves are wet and oily could be that.

Checked one of the pistons for manufacturer ID and found some numbers. AE11412 also 3368 AM 413 , top of piston has ID.10 +030" stamped, according to an earlier post on the forum AE11412 are Hepolite pistons. I'm having a bit of a problem getting rings as a couple of the local small engineering shops cease to exist and I checked Draganfly website and they have plenty of .020  .040 .060 for A10 and .030 for A7 long stroke so do any of you local lads (Trev, Musky & Dutch) know of any suppliers in oz that may be able to supply me with +.030 rings.

 Sorry Tom, no-one up my way at all (that I know of), I usually go straight online, Modak may be a shot..no actually there may be a guy, but can't remember his name- Something like BMH or BMT Trading.... I know where he is in Tarragindi, not far from me(in days), I'll see if I can find him..have a card somewhere...

Try ''Pacific Engine Parts'' (perfect seal piston rings) he will also do 3pc oil rings (machines the pistons to suit). He's names Trevor works from Montrose Victoria

This may be considered bad practice, but I had a similar situation with a Tiger 100. I had some usable +.030 Heplex pistons, and had the cylinders bored to suit, then couldn't find +.030 rings. I bought +.040 rings and filed the ends to give the correct gap.
I have since done over 3000 miles with no problems. Engine runs well, and doesn't smoke.
Might be worth considering.

G'day Tom.
You could try Classic Allparts in Sydney. Bob is closing the shop (the old Jim Eades shop on Parramatta Rd) and moving it all home for mail, phone & internet orders only.
Arthur, it isn't recommended but have done the same on more than one occasion (gotta go racing) with no ill affects. 10 thou would be the absolute max oversize and a dry assembly for quick bed in.

Out of interest, the 1946 Triumph parts list shows pistons available in +.005", +.010", and +.020" sizes only.

The "odd" sizes don't seem to have been generally available for a long time. I only remember +.020" and +.040" being available from my local dealer in the 1960s (David Tyes in Cromford, anyone remember them). 

Maybe later experience was that wear between rebores usually needed more than .010" to remove the wear?
