shark infested water.... hilarious!
« on: 04.01. 2015 23:05 »
As our bikes become more desirable and therefore valuable it seems our world is being increasingly looked in upon by those who are only interested in making money and hijacking our passion for their profit. I enjoy reading the adverts, particularly Ebay, where fiction and greed seem to go hand-in-hand. Are we idiots? - Obviously not! But there must be some idiots out there who think that we will fall for their cr4p! I was drawn to an advert for an A10, written with a tone of absolute authority, which made me cringe and laugh at the same time. The advert is obviously intended to appeal to somebody with a wad of spare cash, gets drunk in front of his PC, has nostalgic thoughts about the good old days, decides to buy a motorbike, and knows nothing about BSA A10's. The price might or might not be fair in today's climate, however I remember buying a bike a bit like this for £60, in 1979, but the description is.... well..... what do you think??!! (Don't forget to look at the pictures!)

The correct title for one of these is a BITSA you see them all the time on ebay. Perfectly OK as long as you are aware of what you are paying for.

There is a word for such an arrogant, haughty, conceited, disdainful, overbearing, pompous, condescending, superior, patronizing, imperious, proud, snobbish, snobby, smug, scornful and sneering attitude, but I like all of these synonyms better. (OK, OK, I am trying not to be these things, whether it appears so or not.)

What I find puzzling is that reading those 2 adverts you'd say they were written by the same person.....yet different locations and names?

I don't disagree with all the other comments, but all I could think looking at these ads was "damn, there's more A10s for sale on that side of the pond than I've seen in my lifetime."

I thought that too. Leads me to think one if not both is/are a scam.

To me it looks like legit sellers\listings, the info about the bikes is good\adequate.

No claims of being some unique, fantastic, original bikes, on the contrary clearly giving important info, examples: "we are not suggesting this is a Goldstar"  "THIS IS NOT A SHOW BIKE" "gearbox will need some attention before the bike could be used" etc.

All in all, no signs of any scam, just some used bikes. Worth the asking price? Up to any potential buyer to ask questions\do some research before parting with any money.

My brother has spotted this on Ebay and wanted to know my thoughts

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/bsa-starfire-250-/281553320889?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item418de2bbb9

a DVLA check of the Reg comes up with "not found", I said I'd ask if anyone has any info on it

Bill,

If you are concerned that it's a scam (and it does not seem so to me), you could ask the seller to take a closeup photo of something not shown in the listing. If they do it, it would seem a pretty good confirmation of legitimacy.
