Is this cylinder worth saving?
« on: 13.01. 2015 01:27 »
One of the cylinders that came with my truckload of A10 parts appears to be a victim of a broken connecting rod. The spigot and even the bottom of the sleeve is broken. Fins are all good. Is this worth anything? I'm thinking that resleeved it may actually be useable, but I really don't know.

G'day mate.
They look like thick flange so I would keep to refurb. Whack another sleeve in, bob's your uncle.
Cheers

I agree with Muskrat - I got my original barrels resleeved and bore is back to standard. The PO attempted to do the ton on it many years ago. He succeeded but the con rod didn't like to move so fast, so escaped out the crank case, taking a bit of the spigot with it, just like in your example. I let my machinist source the sleeves to ensure there was enough metal left on the barrels to cope with the stresses.

I had mine resleeved in the UK (both cylinders) recently it cost about £140 and thick flange barrels are going for ridiculous prices nowadays but if you are going to throw them away please throw them in my direction :)
