A7 scrambler petrol tank question
« on: 14.02. 2015 09:35 »
All the petrol tanks on fleabay seem to be from India. Anyone had any joy with these? steer clear?  My A7 one rotted from inside. Now it's in trial trim I need one that is no longer than 45cm otherwise it will foul the seat.  I'm actually not sure how long a standard A7 tank is as my original is long gone. It's been running around with a cobbled together setup of non BSA tank and seat but now I have the proper scrambler seat mounted I have found the current tank is too long (only just at 47cm!) unless I start moving the rear seat mounting bracket and re drilling the rear mudguard which I don't want to do. Anyway I mocked it up with the seat slightly further back but then it doesnt sit properly so I'd rather have it in the proper position and a tank that fits!

Any advice, recommendations would be gratefully received. I assume a "proper" scrambler tank would fit and pick up on the central mounting point but again I'm not sure about this, or even what constitutes a "proper" scrambler tank!! I could even go back to an A7 tank if anyone knows (or would kindly measure) the overall length?

Cheers

Al

Had some more info from another source. Id forgotten but the original tank, and a lot of other models, have a sort of cut out at the back where the seat meets it so I think pretty much any A or B series tank will fit  *smile*

The smaller 2 gallon tank will fit with your seat I think....this is an Indian made one, the finish isn't great....you can see it wasn't very well polished before chroming and it seemed to have been painted inside with what looked like red oxide (which I removed with acetone) but has never leaked.....
