Lucas Horn/Dip Switch Types

I am restoring a 1954 Golden Flash with requires new Headlight, Horn and Kill switches. The original were the types that screw onto the clutch and brake perches's which are curved. The switches were shaped to fit. Most reproductions I've seen have mounts that clamp onto the bars. One has a curved back but does not appear to be big enough to fit onto the original holes on the perches. The original Lucas switches are hard to find and expensive. My restoration will not be concourse but I would like to get it as close as I can without going over the top. I thought of buying one of the square tap types and bending the taps but they don't look big enough. Last Sunday I went on a club ride and none of the similar period BSA had the correct switches on the correct perches's so I don't know if I am being anal. Any recommendations of the more successful switches and the ones to avoid would be appreciated.

Fit anything to get you going and one day the right ones will fall in your lap.
Cheers
edit 22/02/15 The switch is BSA part # 19-706 (19-0706), and the clutch lever assembly is 29-8820

Hi Wozza,
No I'm in the same boat as Gaz. I have the correct original levers and also need the original dip switch / kill switch /. horn to fit mine.
Gaz, you are not being anal. I want the correct original ones also.
Cheers Russ

The ones I gave away had the original horn / dip switch the same as this, it screwed directly onto
the leaver mount.. just take the back off...

unsure about the kill switch BUT I bet you could use the same switch... removing the dip switch leaver?

Wozza,
Those switches weren't used until 1956. Before that, the horn switch was the same one as used for the magneto cut-out.

That's right, Woz, but prior to 1956 the left hand switch was only a dipper. They were a Bakelite body with straps to hold them. Earlier still they were a chromed dipper only.

Wozza I think you have me sorted. I wanted to know if I couldn't find the original could I bodge the one you linked to. If I can then I should be able to do the same for both the horn/kill button and the dip switch. I will put the horn and dip switch on the left as that will fall to hand and the kill on the right. My bike was owned by the SA Gov't probable police and then sold and used on a properly in SA. It appears to have been used until it stopped and then parked in a shed. It was bought 20 years ago and pulled apart by the bloke I bought it off. The perches are definitely the original ones and the remains of the dip switch was on one of them. I worked out the year off the engine number as 1954 but who knows if it had the correct switch for its year or was replaced during service.
Does anyone have any opinion on the better brands to look for or are they all a pig in a poke. So far most of the pattern stuff I've bought base been a lottery as to whether it works fits or looks half decent.

Yeah you should be able to do it...
just remove the backing plate on the new switches... &
you'll probably need a small washer over the fixing holes..
as the bolt & nut hole on the switch is larger than the small screw holes..
