ATF leaking out
« on: 10.03. 2015 18:06 »
one or two of you may know from past threds that i'v just replaced the gearbox oil seal (main shaft) well now that its all back together i'v got an oil leak that i never had before, had a feeling where it was comming from coz its red oil, had a look with a mirror and its comming out where that fiber seal/plate thingy is, now if i remember theres  a sort of lip on it round the center hole, now then should this lip be on the outside or facing inside the chaincase.
the other thing is' is there some sort of mod that can be done to it when i strip it down again ie some sort of better seal thanx "derek" x

HI Derek,
The lip on the sliding plate should be faced towards the clutch
I think beezermac posted last week or so about some of the sliding plates that are rivited together where the oil/atf leaks between the 2 pieces, some silicone sealer will fix this
I dont like the felt collar that fits between the plate and inner case *razz*
I think the replacement ones act like a wick!!!
I have made cork ones or theres a "rubber" type for sale on ebay
Often the plate centre hole will be worn badly? and some replacement ones are no better

There are several threads on different fixes for this problem on the forum
