I have one of these fitted to my A10 project, I use the later type with piston replaceing the ball.
I went this route after reading an article from someone we all know

Surely only the Triumph type has the tit on it. ;)
I have one of these on my A10 as well. They are supplied by SRM with two washers which preload the spring. With both washers in plase cold oil pressure was 72 psi, with one removed 65 psi and with none fitted 58 psi. SRM did not menton it when I bought mine, but for the A10 the lowest pressure is nearest the book figure of 50/60 psi.
Perhaps the  only difference with overly high pressure in practice is more chance of leaks around feed side whilst the oil is cold, and a bit more load on the pump gears which is probably insignificant.

Note, however, that this valve is located in the passage which feeds the camshaft and followers, and any paucity of lubricant in that region can get very expensive. One wag refers to the A7-A10 system as "a part time cam oiler". Thus, opt for a pressure on the low side of the specification.
