some years ago I know I cracked the rocker box (due to an interruption/diversion when in the middle of that concentration max job of setting the tappets, I left the pushrod tool in there).
Seem it was not the only thing that cracked, says not a lot about my memory (or lack of) but does show the rugged design of the old girl, as it's been over many miles in this state.
Thankfully I have spares of both box and shaft

Lucky the broken shaft didn't create havoc. I am surprised it snapped that way. I doubt it would have lasted long if she saw redline revs.

It's surprising, considering how we are all used to fine tolerance modern engine designs, how much these old units will put up with and still keep plodding on.  There must be many other examples of this sort of mechanical mayhem that went, comparatively, unnoticed for quite a while.  Anybody got any other examples?
