After removing the retaining nut on the rear axle on my '62 GSS I cant budge the rear axle. A I recall from my MC shop days back in the 60s the axle should just slide out. What am I missing?

Hi Rodger,
The axle is in two parts,
Unscrew the axle from the righthand side of the bike, leaving the sprocket/ stub axle behind
