A7 frame number

Hi guys, Just bought a 1962 A7 (barn find)
I seem to be the third owner of the bike which was registered on the day it was bought 08 05 1962 !
my question is, the frame number is GA717287   engine number DA1012857  registered as an A7 500cc what bike do i actually have ?

Golden Flash crankcase. It depends on what is inside it and what is on top.

The only difference between an A7 and A10 crankcase is the number stamped on it. An A7 in 1962 would have an engine number CA7.9714 and up. Your engine number is an A10 late 1960 and your frame number is a late 1960 (61 model started in August 60). The easiest way to distinguish an A7 from an A10 is count the number of fins on the barrel. 7 = A7, 8 = A10.

Thanks guys for the replys,
But i still cant get my head around this..... the bike came out the factory according to the original paperwork with an a10 casing (from new )  and a frame prefixed with a7 ( from new), also registered ( from new) as an a7 (500cc)engine !   i could kind of understand all this if the bike had had a new crankcase fitted due to an accident or the like but its the same number on it from its birth !!
The only other explanation is someone has removed the internals and swapped the head ect.  if so, why ?
I also thought that it seems that this might be a late a7 and the factory "cobbled" it together with any bits lying around !

Again, many thanks for your imput,  the bike has been stood around for over 20 years prior to me buying it, after cleaning the slip ring on the mag, and de lousing the carb, she fired up third kick !!!

G'day signboy.
All A7 & A10's (except the late RGS) have a frame # ?A7(?).****. Maybe it was cheaper to register a 500 than a 650 and as (down here) bikes are registered by the frame # the owner passed it off as an A7.
Have you counted the barrel fins yet?

My SA engine has DA10-12193 stamped on it which puts it in 1962. My frame is FA7-3109 which puts that one in 1958
If yours is registered from new as an A7, some functionary probably made a mistake when registering it due to the *A7**** frame number, and non of the owners ever bothered. Cheaper on insurance and/or tax maybe as Muskrat suggests? 
Edit; just noticed the typing error. Engine number is of course 1960 instead of 1962
