A10, Best brand of new 7" brake shoes?
« on: 11.07. 2015 15:12 »

Hi,

The brakes (front and rear) on my A10 GF from 1960 are not the best, they are actually pretty bad.

I have tried with new cheap "EMGO" brako shoes front and rear, but this does not improve the braking. What to do next step?

Which brand of brake shoes would You recommend? I have 7" Full width brake drums front and rear. (I know that 8" is the correct front brake size for my bike).  ;)

I have considered these two options in brake shoes:

Original BSA brake shoes: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131359051922?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Ferodo brake shoes: http://www.classic-bike.dk/da/bremsebakker/1028-37-1406.html

Regards,

Frederik, Denmark.

G'day Fred.
NOS originals would be my first choice (check part numbers). Failing that I'd take your shoes to a brake and clutch shop and ask for them to be relined with material as soft as they got.

Hi Frederik,
A good adress for relining;
http://www.gpmotosanciennes.fr/
Owner Gary Parkin has a huge stock of NOS brake linings. Nice bloke to. Had a long chat with him some time ago on a bikejumble.
Give him a call. He'll be happy to answer all of your questions.

Ok  *smile*

I will start with new NOS brake shoes. Do You know about these brake shoes (65-5901), that I have linker to, will be the correct for my 7" Full width hubs?

If this do not improve the brake performance, I will consider relining.

Regards Frederik

G'day Fred.
The correct shoes for 1960 7" hubs are 42-5876.
The part # for just the lining is 42-5878.
