Gaiters
« on: 21.07. 2015 13:50 »
Not really a std fitment on most A10s I suppose, but my bitza runs with no nacelle or ‘trousers’ – just a clip on headlight so I need them to hide the springs. I’ve just fitted the fourth set in about 10 years - all due to the speed at which they perish. The last two sets came from Draganfly, but having figured they were maybe pulling them all from an aging box in the corner I’ve sourced some from another supplier on eBay this time.

Meanwhile my V50 is only on its second set since 1980 (it’s suffered more front end damage and hence sets of fork legs than that). What’s going on? Anybody else suffering this?

Hi cyclobutch,

The graiters all have no airhole in it, thats cause the problems with it.
Heat up a knittingstick or everything else to glow, and burn a little hole at the top plaid, so the gaider can breath.

cheers Klais

But wouldn't that suck in water ? which will knacker the slider ? Also I've had mine on for 8 yrs taken apart twice and still ok, .I lubricate them with a little brake fluid on a cloth ,very carefully and avoiding the paintwork  ,Bob.

They came off completely rotten, like a set of crazed eccentric rings.

I have gaiters on my Gutzzi, and I think they're still ok- better check, they've been on for few years now- fairly sure I changed 'em about 13 years ago when the others got mangled when I T-Boned a car...they have breather/drain hole/s which I put at the rear...maybe a silicon spray might help preserve them.??
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

Dave from Modak in Melbourne showed me the ones they had made for them from REAL RUBBER
because of complaints of the plastic compound ones on the market that split..
They ship internationally..

+1 Modak... Yep, David sold me a set (A50/65 type) that have been on SR for maybe 12 years, and they look good as new.
They weren't cheap mind you.

If their not big (diameter) enough the springs eat them. The last set of cheap Asian ones lasted 3 months  *pull hair out*.
