RGS headlight mounting on GF?
« on: 12.08. 2015 19:21 »
As I am waiting for parts that are back ordered, and can go no further with the engine/tranny until they arrive- I have turned my thoughts to the tins and such.

I bought this bike with radically extended chopper fork legs, and a small square headlight ( just like Snoopy's bike in the Charlie Brown camping special, circa 1972  *smile*).

I know it should have what I think is called the "top hat" nacalle, being a 1958 flash. I can get these from various places, but I personally feel it does not add much to the looks of the bike. The cow pie was better, but thinking about the "spindley" looking mount the RGS had, painted the appropriate gold color, and that is exceptional looking IMO.

I believe I already have the correct reproduction headlight for this, sourced years ago. I would like to maintain the long fork shrouds, without gators. Has anyone done anything like this, and maybe have a picture? I have tried to find close up pictures of the RGS mounting solution, but most are too over-all and general to be of much help.

Or am I completely off my rocker and having a bad decision moment?

Coater, the '54 - '57 Road Rockets had exactly that, long fork shrouds with ears. I think that export Super Rockets were the same except for the '59 U.S. version which had short shrouds and gaiters.
I have never liked the clubman set-up which Kiwi has shown.

I like it so much, I think I'll put it on my Triton.

I am taking it that that is stock BSA hardware on the Clubman. I like it. I think famous custom bike builder Indian Larry (RIP) explained it very well. This is taken from a website called "Mechanicalness":

Larry liked to see all the parts of a motorcycle exposed. He liked to see all the gizmos, the clockwork of the bike. The art was in function. "I like all the nuts and bolts and fittings, the linkage and the mechanicalness of it. I like to see all the mechanicalness," Larry said. He likened this to opening the back of a pocket watch and seeing all the internal components exposed and ticking away.

Yes, those right there. I am not positive on it yet, but I really do like that look.

Now to figure out how to keep the long shrouds, no gaitors, and not make this look bad. I imagine I will also get hold of a top hat set-up and paint to match, and leave my options open.
