On my A10 1958 swinging arm, I bought some new silencers, when I tried to fit them I found that they went in as far as the baffles and stopped about 1 1/4" short. apart from cutting off the pipes any ideas?

I just had a similar problem with new silencers. Look inside the silencer and see if there is a burr around a hole drilled into the pipe. I think the holes in the pipe were drilled in to give the welder a guide when finding the right position for the body of the silencer on the pipe.

Richard,
         When you look inside there is the outer pipe for about 3-31/2" then a perforated pipe running the length of the silencer, it looks like that inner pipe is too small. Tone.

Well, wait. I have the smaller diameter perforated pipe, but also the burrs from the guide holes. So, you have no burrs?

I got them ages ago, and no burrs. Do I have to throw them away then?

Are the pipes new as well? Its normal for them to be supplied on the generous side ie long.Ive cut many down to length.

To be clear, I wasn't suggesting throwing out the silencers if cutting down the pipes is the only way to go. I'm glad Mike chimed in on this, considering his experiences with overlong pipes. I have no such expereince, not because I've had mutliple sets of perfect pipes, but because  I've only ever bought one new set, which worked after I removed the burr from the inside of the silencer.
